Programme Note
This recital celebrates a notorious dinner meeting in Paris at the Majestic Hotel in May 1922, hosted by Violet and Sydney Schiff following the premiere of Igor Stravinsky’s Le Renard. Among the guests were Marcel Proust, James Joyce, Pablo Picasso, and Sergei Diaghilev, and this concert pays homage to the legendary creative partnerships forged at this meeting. Irish soprano Ailish Tynan won the 2003 Rosenblatt Recital Song Prize at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, was a member of the prestigious Vilar Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and a BBC New Generation Artist. She is joined in recital by the award-winning Welsh collaborative pianist and conductor Jocelyn Freeman, founder and Artistic Director of SongEasel, who is described by Gramophone magazine as “… ever-sensitive… exemplary, whether taking the lead or in discreet support.”
