Programme Note
The Brahms Club is launching a series of 18 weekly concerts in Limehouse at 2pm on 2 November 2025. In collaboration with The Royal Foundation of St Katharine, we are putting on a world first: the complete chamber works of Johannes Brahms.
The great Romantic composer, Brahms was born in the docklands region of Hamburg. When offered an honorary doctorate from Oxford he turned it down because he did not want to travel to the UK for fear of being turned into a celebrity by the press - his only regret; that he would not be able to visit the famous Docklands of London.
We're bringing Brahms to the Docklands. Musicians include performers from the London City Orchestra, Jennifer Lee (piano), Ralph Lane (clarinet), Tim Crawford (violin) and Jennifer Stumm (viola).
Brahms wrote 24 chamber works in total ranging from the intimate sonatas for two musicians to his magnificent sextets for two violins, two violas and two cellos.
The concerts are free and all donations raised will go towards our supported charities: Ilumina, which supports young Brazilian musicians with studies in Europe, IMS Prussia Cove, which helps with mentorship of young musicians in the UK and our fabulous partner itself, The Royal Foundation of St Katharine.
The Royal Foundation of St Katharine now has Sunday Roasts - make an afternoon of it: Brahms + Roast!
