From Florence with love

the London Novello Ensemble in romantic mood

Add to my Calendar 19-04-2020 15:00 19-04-2020 17:00 36 From Florence with love Spring is well and truly in the air – and (who knows?) maybe love as well. The London Novello Ensemble return to Bar Topolski on the South Bank to offer you an inspiring tour of some of the more romantic corners of Europe plus a short digression to Buenos Aires. Their goal, as ever, is to demonstrate how accessible the great chamber music of the world can be, away from the formality of the concert hall. Whether you’re a seasoned classical music lover or just somebody who’s curious to hear more, come and enjoy a thoroughly relaxing Sunday afternoon. Relaxation is key: the doors open at 2 pm, enabling you to settle in with a glass of wine or beer in your hand well before the performance begins at 3.00. This will be a memorable event. The London Novello Ensemble includes some of London’s most talented classical musicians – this time, taking their cue from the romantic city of Florence and the enduring theme of love. Central to the concert will be their rendition of Tchaikovsky’s ‘Souvenir de Florence’, which manages to combine deeply moving moments with lively dance rhythms. The programme also includes Bach’s engaging A minor violin concerto. Other pieces picking up the romantic theme range from Jean-Baptiste Lully to Ivor Novello. In addition, by popular request, the concert will feature a repeat of a virtuoso performance of Piazolla’s passionate ‘Libertango’. Leader Gavin Davis will, as ever, introduce the pieces being played, offering his unique combination of useful insight and quirky humour. The bar will be open for drinks and snacks throughout the performance and interval; and following the concert the audience is cordially invited to rub shoulders with the musicians at their ‘after’ party. Seating is limited so advance booking at £16 (including Eventbrite booking fee) is strongly advised. If by chance any tickets still remain on the day of the concert, they will be on sale at the door for £17. Topolski, London DD/MM/YYYY
