Programme Note
Whether you're a long term fan of classical music or just curious about it, make sure you don't miss the London Novello Ensemble’s relaxed approach to taking chamber music out of the chamber. The London Novello Ensemble is a group of professional musicians who came together with the aim of making classical music more widely accessible without dumbing it down. They give concerts with the high musical standard of the concert hall but without the associated formality, instead favouring the easy-going surroundings of wine and cocktail bars.
This time, they're in Halloween mode. Expect all manner of musical apparitions, devilish fiddling and haunting melodies. They'll aim to stir your spirits with Schubert's Death and the Maiden quartet, Tartini's Devil's Trill Sonata and Saint-Saens Danse Macabre. There will be some spooktacular surprises in the form of music by Berlioz and Gluck and even a side-trip to the USA's Deep South. As ever, leader Gavin Davies will introduce each piece with his own enlightening insights and devilish sense of humour.
Places are limited to a maximum of 70, so be sure to book yours early. Be prepared for good music, talented playing and the occasional non-classical musical surprise. Some tickets may be available on the door, but advance booking is advisable and cheaper.
The bar will be open for drinks and snacks before and throughout the concert. The musicians will be staying around to chat over drinks after the concert, when they and concert attendees have exclusive use of Bar Topolski’s cosy Arch 3.
