This is followed by Borodin’s best known symphony, packed with lively Slavic rhythms and atmospheric melodies. The ‘Firebird’ suite is one of Stravinsky’s most popular works, drawn from the ballet of that name based on Russian fairy tales of the Firebird and the blessing and curse it bestows on its owner.
