Programme Note

Pianist Cordelia Williams is renowned for her interpretations of the music of Schubert and Schumann. Both composers feature in this evening recital.

Writing to his future wife, Clara Wieck, Robert Schumann described the first movement of his Fantasie as 'the most passionate I have ever composed'.

The recital opens with Beethoven's last work for piano. He described the work to his publishers as 'probably the best pieces of this kind I have written'.
