Programme Note
The curtain opens on the 2026 Ulverston International Music Festival with two of Britain’s finest musicians. The wonderful violinist Jennifer Pike makes a welcome return to Ulverston and is joined by the ever-popular Martin Roscoe.
Their programme juxtaposes Mozart’s Violin Sonata in G major, a masterwork of balance and charm, with Debussy’s shimmering Violin Sonata. Brahms’s Four Klavierstucke – the deeply expressive and very final works he wrote for piano – and Clara Schumann’s Three Romances bring tenderness and intimacy to the centre of the evening, while Grieg’s spirited Violin Sonata No. 1 in F major concludes the programme with Nordic freshness and youthful vitality.
