Programme Note

In the mid-1980s John Mark Ainsley emerged from the choir of Christ Church, Oxford, to pursue a glittering solo career.

The lyric tenor, known for his artistic vision and the supple qualities of his voice, built his reputation with stylish performances of Bach, Handel and Mozart, and has flourished more recently in acclaimed productions of operas by Britten, Henze and Janáček.
