Programme Note
What better way to kick off the festive season than the Waynflete Singers’ ever-popular Christmas concert ‘Gloria!’, on December 3rd? The concert programme features Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols in which the composer arranges familiar carol melodies of rural England into a work that is joyous and uplifting. Alongside this work, Finzi’s shimmering In Terra Pax conjures up the scene of the shepherds in the fields above Bethlehem being visited by the angels, and the song that they sing, ‘Glory to God in the Highest!’ In the first half of the concert the choir will perform Dvorak's tuneful Mass in D , which reminds us of the hills, valleys, woods and rivers of Dvorak's homeland.
There will be carols with audience participation, to add seasonal cheer to the proceedings. The London Mozart Players and a stellar cast of soloists will be conducted by Andrew Lumsden in what promises to be an enticing festive programme.
