Winchmore String Orchestra Concert in aid of APAP Winter Night Shelter

Add to my Calendar 30-11-2019 19:30 30-11-2019 21:30 36 Winchmore String Orchestra Concert in aid of APAP Winter Night Shelter PLATFORM  SHARING   Two young musicians who first met as members of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain will share a platform at our next concert.  One is our conductor, Michael Coleby, who took up the WSO baton a year ago and who was a cellist in the NYO. The other is violinist Tim Crawford who has a busy career as a soloist and chamber music player.  Born into a musical family, Tim started studying music at the age of four in the junior department of the Royal Academy of Music, and during his subsequent studies at the Academy and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama he won several awards.  He regularly appears at leading chamber music festivals in Britain and on the Continent and he recently performed with the Nash Ensemble at Wigmore Hall in a recital broadcast on BBC Radio 3. This year he won 1st prize with the Barbican String Quartet at the International Joseph Joachim Chamber Competition. He plays frequently with the acclaimed Arcangelo ensemble and he leads Collegium, a group of the best recent string graduates of the London music colleges. At our concert Tim will be playing the Concerto in A minor by BACH.  The programme, which spans three centuries, will also contain the Concerto Grosso No 4 by CORELLI, the towering Baroque violinist and composer who greatly influenced Bach and others.  The rest of the concert is much closer in time to today, with Two Norwegian Melodies by GRIEG, the much-loved Adagietto from MAHLER’S 5TH Symphony (the movement is currently listed at 63 in Classic FM’s “Hall of Fame”) and the Moorside Suite by HOLST, a string version of a work written for a national brass band competition. Finally, a piece by the living composer, Paul LEWIS, called Rosa Mundi, written “to assuage the sadness of parting from a loved one”. TM Winchmore Hill Methodist Church, London DD/MM/YYYY
