Programme Note

We are thrilled to be performing our first concert with guest conductor (and Yorkshire native) Ben Crick.

This programme explores aspects of the beautiful and awe-inspiring British coast(Hebrides, Tintagel), alongside works that contain echoes of First World War.

Butteworth's A Shropshire Lad, (based on a song cycle inspired by the war poems of A. E Housman) tells the story of a young man sent to fight. And Vaughan Williams' Pastoral Symphony is a unique mix of symphonic tone poem depicting the great beauty of the English countryside together with an elegy to the terrible losses of WW1.

Music to reflect the stunning nature of our countryside whilst also reflecting on the darker periods of our past.

---
We are excited to return to Eccleshall Parish Church for this concert. Please note, there is free street parking nearby and a short, flat walk to the entrance.

A violin rests in the sea with the English countryside in the background.
