Programme Note
The Boxgrove Choral Festival culminates with this Festival Concert. Our programme focuses on themes reflection, mourning, hope and joy, hopefully encapsulating some of the emotional whirlwind we’ve all been through during the past 18 months. From funeral music by Howells to ecstatic writing for Easter by MacMillan, there's a huge range of unaccompanied choral music to enjoy in this concert.
The Beaufort Singers is a chamber choir formed at the University of Cambridge in 2016 under the direction of Joseph Wicks. Named after Lady Margaret Beaufort who founded St John’s College, Cambridge, the choir’s raison d’être has become the Boxgrove Choral Festival. Founded in 2018, this takes place in the extraordinary 12th century Boxgrove Priory in West Sussex, with a schedule of services, recitals and concerts. The Priory’s acoustics are ideal for all kinds of unaccompanied choral music, and the repertoire typically reflects this, featuring renaissance polyphony and contemporary works.
