Based in Glasgow, the Aurea Quartet comprises four prize-winning graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
During their first year performing together, they achieved joint first prize at the 2011 Cavatina Intercollegiate Quartet Competition in London, and won all of the chamber music prizes at the RCS. They gave their Wigmore Hall debut in February 2012 as part of the Pro Corda Musical Encounters Programme. Later that year, they were finalists in the 1st Sándor Végh International String Quartet Competition in Budapest where they were awarded a special prize for their outstanding performance of Lajtha String Quartet No.7. They were winners of the St Martin-in-the-Fields chamber music prize 2014 which has resulted in concert engagements across Britain. After a series of successful auditions in 2014, the Quartet has been selected for the Enterprise Music Scotland Residency Project 2014-16, as St John’s Smith Square Young Artists 2014-15, and as resident quartet for the 2015 Wye Valley Chamber Festival.
Collectively, the Quartet have studied with members of the Alban Berg, Brodsky, Belcea, Chilingirian, Carducci, Endellion, Eroica, Jerusalem, and Mosaiques Quartets, they are also regular attendees at the London Chamber Studio classes in Kings Place.
