Programme Note
Folklore and fairy-tale wonders frame the programme for our opening orchestral concert, starting with Lyadov’s spooky evocation of the witch Baba Yaga and ending with the lush, exotic delights of the Arabian Nights in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. A striking and captivating musical personality, violinist Simone Lamsma will join the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under its Conductor Laureate Vasily Petrenko. For many, the definitive violin concerto, Tchaikovsky’s passionate work is filled with gorgeous melodies and brilliant virtuosity.
We're incredibly grateful that Simone Lamsma has kindly stepped in to perform in this concert, replacing Sergei Dogadin who has unfortunately had to withdraw.
