Programme Note
Join Artistic Director, Tom Williams, the Festival Chamber Choir and Orchestra and a star-studded line up of soloists for this year’s explosive finale.
Mozart was coming to the end of his short life when he composed these
two extraordinarily contrasting works: the Clarinet concerto and Requiem.
The concerto belies the composer’s physical discomforts, with its joyful and uplifting melodies that show off the tremendous expressive potential of the clarinet.
The Requiem, conversely, plunges the depths of human despair with the anguished cries of its Dies Irae, and sorrowful lilting melodies of the Kyrie and Lacrimosa. The Festival Chamber Choir has become well known for its passionate and precise renderings of these great works - this is sure to be a festival finale to remember.
