Programme Note
“There’s a harrowing intensity to this portrayal of the haunted outcast, and the sound of the period piano underpins the clarity of Padmore’s keen reaction to the text. I think this is an outstanding Winterreise, one to live with for a while.” (Andrew McGregor, BBC Radio 3 Record Review)
Tenor Mark Padmore and pianist Noam Greenberg present a special concert performance of Schubert’s song cycle, Winterreise, in support of A Land for All, a unique Israeli-Palestinian organisation.
Through over a decade of direct talks between Palestinian and Israeli activists, A Land for All developed a unique vision for a peaceful future in Israel-Palestine based on equality, democracy and freedom for all people. Their vision of co-operation, instead of separation, respects the mutual desire of both Palestinians and Israelis for national self-determination while recognising the attachment of both peoples to the entire homeland. A Land for All is a member of Alliance for Middle East Peace, and won the Outstanding Peace Support Award Luxembourg Peace Prize in 2021.
The performance will be followed by a short talk presenting some of the key ideas of A Land for All.
