Programme Note

The performance on Sunday 11 November in Guildford Cathedral of this intense masterpiece marks the centenary of the end of World War One - one of the world's deadliest conflicts which saw more than 70 million military personnel in action and in which over nine million service personnel and seven million civilians died.

Join Guildford Choral, The Bach Choir, Guildford Cathedral Choristers and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Jonathan Willcocks, to honour the fallen and to mark this most significant Remembrance Day – the ending of the ‘War to end all Wars’.

There will be a retiring collection on behalf of The HALO Trust - the world's largest humanitarian mine clearance organisation.

Britten's intense masterpiece: 'The pity of war, the pity war distilled'
