Programme Note

The first period instrument string quartet to be selected as BBC New Generation Artists, the Consone Quartet are rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting ensembles of their generation.

Tonight they are focussing on music of the classical and romantic periods – repertoire for which they are particularly celebrated. We have a welcome opportunity to hear music by Fanny Mendelssohn alongside one of her brother’s greatest quartets. There is also a Haydn classic and Schubert’s Quartettsatz, a movement from a quartet that the composer never completed.

Consone play Hexham on Tuesday, 19th October
