Born in Mullingar, Ireland, Ailish Tynan studied in Dublin and London before going on to become a Vilar Young Artist at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and a BBC New Generation Artist. She became a favourite among Welsh audiences by winning the Rosenblatt Recital Prize at the 2003 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition. Now much in demand in the opera houses throughout Europe her recent roles have  included Gretel in Hansel and Gretel for Welsh National Opera. She is also a prolific concert and recording artist, giving recitals at festivals and venues throughout the UK and Ireland. Highlights in the current season include her return to the Royal Opera House as Madame Podtotshina’s Daughter in Shostakovich’s The Nose and performances in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Philharmonie Zuidnederland and Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 in Dresden. The Glaswegian pianist Iain Burnside is well-known through his collaborations with many leading international singers and wide range of recordings. He also has a career in broadcasting, winning a Sony Award for his work on radio and television as presenter of series such as From Where I’m Sitting on Radio 3 and competitions including BBC Cardiff Singer of the World and BBC Young Musician of the Year.
