In 2014 Savitri was the overall winner of the Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition; and 20 years earlier in 1994 Mayfield Festival commissioned Francis to compose a Mass, The Mass in Time of Persecution, which was given its world premier at the Festival and its London premier a week later. Born in 1992, Savitri read Music at Christ Church, Oxford and is currently undertaking a Masters at the Guildhall studying with David Takeno. She gained 1st Prize at the Oxford Philomusica and Tunbridge Wells International Competitions and in 2015 she was selected for representation by Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT). A committed chamber musician Savitri has collaborated with Susan Tomes, Christoph Richter, Steven Isserlis and Alasdair Beatson, and regularly gives recitals with the Grier Trio with her sister Indira and father Francis. In 2014 the Trio gave their first performance of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, and performed Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time with Andrew Marriner at King’s College Chapel, Cambridge. Francis was organist of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, and gave the first ever Prom concert given over to a solo performer in 1985. He is now a psychoanalyst and composer. In recent years he has written two Masses for St Paul’s Cathedral. In 2011, he wrote A Sequence for St Davids for the St Davids Festival. Prayer, to George Herbert’s poem, written for the Choirbook for the Queen, was broadcast from Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford in 2012.
