Programme Note
Maestro violinist Philppa Mo returns with the second programme exploring the Solo Sonatas and Partitas by Bach framed by the fantasias of Telemann. We also hear a work written for Philippa and commissioned by Tate St Ives by the young composer Leo Geyer and the electronic ambient The Blue Girls have All Gone Away by Colin Riley for violin and delay pedal. This latter will be a world premiere. Excitingly, both composers Leo Geyer and Colin Riley will be present for this performance.
Since last month's performance with guitarist Martin Fogel, Philippa has been playing and teaching in China, in her role as Senior Lecturer in Violin at Leeds College of Music and touring again with Harriet Mackenzie as Retorica Duo with guitarist Martin Fogel this time in the north of Sweden.
Shortwave Cafe is a new arts hub in the Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey and offers a lovely open space with fantastic exhibitions on its walls, a bar serving drinks and pizzas, and comfy tables and chairs. We think it is just the informal, cosy, non-classical space to which to bring this kind of world-class classical music. It is a 5 minute walk from Bermondsey Tube Station (on the Jubilee line). Come and join us!
