Programme Note

Following a highly acclaimed concert last year, the Norwich-based Academy of St Thomas return to St Andrew’s Church, Hingham on Saturday 16th September.  With a focus again on young talent, the soloist is saxophonist Finlay McEwen. Winner of the Norfolk Young Musician 2013, Finn was a pupil at Norwich School and has since been studying at the Guildhall School of Music with John Harle. He will perform Glazunov’s romantic saxophone concerto accompanied by the strings of the AST.

The concert conducted by Matthew Andrews will begin with Rossini’s Italian Girl in Algiers and Schubert’s Symphony No 3. The final piece is Malcolm Arnold’s Serenade for small orchestra which is reminiscent of his melodius film music influences and a lively finale to his concert.
