As a teenager, he travelled from Australia to London in order to study with Joanna MacGregor; now approaching 30 he has lived and worked in London ever since and now teaches at the Royal Academy of Music alongside his mentor. His programme in Mayfield's Summer Solstice concert series is built around Debussy and Respighi and also introduces the Hungarian soundworld of Dohnanyi and the simplicity of Hans Abrahamsen's Danish soundscape. Joseph havlat likes ferns. He is also an astonishing pianist.
