Programme Note
Join us for a trio of Romantic masterpieces. We begin with Weber’s enchanting Oberon Overture, with its mystical horn calls, scurrying fairy music, and dramatic crescendos perfectly setting the scene for an evening of Romantic splendour. Then, experience the emotional power of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, a piece born from despair but now celebrated for its soaring melodies and virtuosic brilliance. From its iconic opening bells to its lyrical, film-famous slow movement and virtuosic finale, this is an emotional journey that thrills audiences time and again. We close with Dvořák's Symphony No. 5, a piece with pastoral charm, rustic dances and a triumphant, brass-heavy finale. This is Dvořák at his sunniest and most joyous.
The KPO is thrilled to be joined by pianist Katya Grabova for the concerto. Described as “a pianist of fearless brilliance and restrained passion,” Katya Grabova is establishing herself as one of the most compelling young pianists of her generation. She has performed at major music festivals including Rheingau Musik Festival and Leeds International Concert Season. A highlight of her current season includes her solo recital debut at Wigmore Hall.
