Programme Note
BAFTA-winning actor and comic Alistair McGowan joins pianist Mark Bebbington to narrate Poulenc's enchanting setting of the story of Babar, in an entertaining programme of musical surprises.
BAFTA-winning actor and comic Alistair McGowan joins pianist Mark Bebbington as narrator in a light-hearted French programme of musical surprises entitled ‘French Connections’, to include Erik Satie’s Sports et Divertissements with rarely-heard narration. The French theme continues with Poulenc and Debussy, before Alistair narrates Poulenc’s setting of Babar the Elephant, based on the classic by Jean de Brunhoff.
Summer Music in City Churches was founded in 2018, presenting beautiful music to engage, divert and inspire, in ancient and architecturally stunning churches in London's Square Mile. Standing cheek by jowl with City offices, these churches are glorious settings in which to listen and reflect: oases of history, beauty and peace amidst the 24-7 hurly-burly of City life.
