Programme Note
This concert features some of the most popular works of the Romantic era.
The Primrose Piano Quartet is joined by Laura Rickard, artistic director of the Romsey Festival, and Martin Stanzeleit.
The four pieces for Solo Piano are a collection of character pieces and the last compositon for solo piano by Brahms.
The Violin Sonata by César Franck was written for the great Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe and is probably the best known work for this combination.
The Pavane "Couleur du Temps" for string quintet by Swiss composer Frank Martin derives its name & inspiration from a fairy tale by Charles Perrault.
The concert ends with another all-time favourite of the genre, the Piano Quintet by Robert Schumann.
This concert is candlelit and the ticket price includes a glass of wine or soft drink.
