Add to my Calendar 18-03-2018 16:00 18-03-2018 18:00 36 Sacconi Quartet with Michael Collins, clarinet This is the final concert of SVAM's 67th season and what better way to conclude than with the Sacconi Quartet that has earned many distinguished accolades for their compelling and stylish performances.They have already given twenty-two world and four British premières and they performed Paul McCartney’s hit song Come Home. They have been joined on stage by many world class artists including Vladimir Ashkkenazy. It is a group which has become known throughout the world for its creativity and integrity of interpretation. They are joined by the renowned clarinettist and conductor, Michael Collins. He went to the Royal College of Music in his early teens for tuition and by 16 he had attained virtuoso status winning the woodwind prize at the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition in 1978. In 1985 he began teaching at the Royal College of Music until he became the principal clarinettist for the Philharmonica Orchestra and founded London Winds in 1988 which toured Europe, the US and Canada. More recently he has concentrated on his solo work and chamber music playing with leading musicians including Martha Argerich.
