Programme Note

Ralph Vaughan Williams arranged folk carols from across the land to create his delightful Fantasia on Christmas Carols and this sparkling collection of melodies will form one of the highlights of Lewisham Choral Society’s Christmas concert this year. After a 5-year gap, the choir is delighted to return to its old familiar home of Lewisham’s parish church of St Mary the Virgin. Like your mother’s Christmas pudding, it will present a rich mixture of seasonal fare including traditional carols for choir and audience and original Yuletide tunes by Tchaikovsky, John Rutter, William Mathias, John Tavener and Carl Rütti for the choir alone.  All of this under the direction of maestro Dan Ludford-Thomas and accompanied by Nico de Villiers. A very Merry Christmas to one and all!
