Programme Note
Our concert starts in the Bohemian Forest with Smetana's Vltava, which describes the progress of Bohemia's greatest river from its source, through rapids, to its confluence with the Elbe.
Tchaikovsky writes music of great beauty and emotional intensity, and his Romeo and Juliet overture certainly lives up to this in its depiction of the tragic lovers.
Bizet's opera Carmen is always a favourite with audiences, and we play an orchestral arrangement of some of the best tunes, followed by Borne's flamboyantly virtuosic Fantasy featuring Nick Shipman on clarinet.
We end with rousing music from John Williams' film score for E.T.
Introduced in an informal manner by conductor Stefan Hofkes, this magical programme will be a musical feast for everybody, young or old.
St Michael's Centre is next to Bristol Parkway station.
