Programme Note
Jess Gillam, celebrated saxophonist, the youngest soloist at the Proms, and popular broadcaster and presenter of ‘This Classical Life’ on Radio 3, is passionate about breaking down the barriers between musical genres and broadening the saxophone repertoire.
Jess alongside her equally talented friends Zeynep Özsuca (piano) and Sam Becker (double bass) weaves a programme of fantastic lesser known repertoire with fresh takes on some firm favourites. From Jazz influences with music by composers such as Phil Woods, Sidney Bechet and Barbara Thompson to Baroque energy from Corelli to some joyous Gershwin and shades of folk, this programme has something for everyone to enjoy.
The Turkish pianist Zeynep Özsuca has performed as a concert pianist and chamber musician with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors. She works as an accompanist to international singers and as an educator and repetiteur for opera Houses in London, Glyndebourne and Berlin.
Sam Becker, bassist, has a varied musical career working as a performer across genres from classical to pop. He is a musical director, and producer for Bea and Her Business, plays in his own band SUN SILVA and for over 10 years has toured and recorded for some of the world's leading artists and orchestra’s.
