High Art to Hoe-down!

Part of the Brandenburg Festival Chorus Spring Series 2019 Season

Add to my Calendar 28-04-2019 17:00 28-04-2019 19:00 36 High Art to Hoe-down! The Cecilian Singers have always had a reputation for variety in their programmes. Here they have excelled themselves. High Art is represented by exquisite motets from home-grown Tallis and Byrd, and international Renaissance Man Orlandus Lassus. They also offer the only a cappella vocal music ever written by Debussy, and Edward Naylor's monumental Vox Dicentis. Rubbing shoulders with all this beautiful music are songs by Cole Porter, Vincent Youmans, Jerome Kern, plus the fabulous Over the Rainbow by Harold Arlen. The programme also features traditional songs from Britain and America, culminating in a stationary performance of a hoe-down (well, THE CECILIAN SINGERS were never noted for their ability to move!). Inspired by Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of music, this aptly named chamber choir of thirty mixed voices has been gracing the musical scenes of this country and abroad for thirty three years. Although the choir are based in Leicester, many of its members travel an extraordinary number of miles to join their Music Director, Jeremy Jackman for his all day Saturday workshops, together with intervening rehearsals taken by their Répétiteur, Guy Turner. All members have had wide experience of choral singing and many also have a high reputation as soloists. St Stephen Walbrook Church, London DD/MM/YYYY
