Programme Note
From a small but richly musical country, the Czech Trio Martinů was formed at Prague Conservatory in 1990 and the Trio’s current line-up has remained unchanged since 1993. Their 25th anniversary celebrations in 2015 include their first ever two tours of England. Hearing them play the Dvořák and Schubert works in London, composer Robert Hugill wrote ‘Throughout the evening you felt the three players feeling the music, grasping it instinctively... This was a deeply felt, but poised and classical performance which was rarely over-emotional but had a clear inner strength.’
They open tonight with a dramatic trio by their compatriot, Bohuslav Martinů (1890-1959), from whom the Trio take its name.
