Programme Note

Our season-opening concert will be a celebration of music with a Bohemian connection. The passionate, intimate and rousing Caprice Bohémien by Rachmaninov will set the scene perfectly before we welcome back virtuoso Jonathan Ellis to perform the innovative and boisterous Piano Concerto No. 1 in E flat by Hungarian composer Franz Liszt. Bohemian Moods, composed by Gorton Philharmonic's oboist Chris Irvin, follows, and the concert concludes with Bohemian-born composer Martinů’s Symphony No. 1, a work of extraordinary power and beauty composed in memory of his late wife.
