Programme Note

Miguel starts his solo recital with J.S. Bach’s 1st Suite for cello: Miguel is looking forward to completing the entire cycle of 6 suites for the Festival, having previously played 4 of the Suites before this year.

So just one more to play after today!

The Sonata by Zoltán Kodály for solo cello is considered to be the greatest in this genre since Bach, and is certainly a real tour de force.

35 Britannia Row: The warehouses used to be the recording studios for many of Britain’s finest pop and rock groups in the 80s and 90s, including Pink Floyd. This historic and evocative setting for today’s concert is well-suited to Giovanni Sollima’s work for cello and digital tape.
