Programme Note
What happens when song and poetry share the same stage?
In this unique concert, Chantefable pairs the rarely heard songs of Edward Elgar with the poetry of Oscar Wilde, spoken aloud and illuminated by piano. Together, music and words explore love, beauty, desire, regret, and the search for meaning in a changing world. Moving from intimate songs to dazzling verse and powerful reflections on loss and longing, this programme offers a fresh encounter with two of the most distinctive voices of the late Victorian Age.
Opening and closing with sparkling Shakespeare settings by Finzi and Dring, this is an evening of music, poetry, and storytelling at its most vivid.
