Stravinsky’s ballet Pulcinella was one of his neoclassical gems, using music he believed to have been written by Pergolesi. Mozart’s charming, spirited Piano Concerto No. 23, with its famous opening theme, is performed by celebrated pianist Leon McCawley. Mendelssohn was influenced by the likes of Mozart and Beethoven but also by the scenery he enjoyed when, as a young man, he explored Europe on his ‘Grand Tour’.
