Our resident orchestra begins with Beethoven's turbulent Symphony No. 2 and then vivacious Symphony No. 4, so enamoured by the latter symphony, Mendelssohn chose it to be performed at his first concert at Gewandhaus in Leipzig. Brilliant pianist Freddy Kempf joins the RPO with a performance of Beethoven's glittering Piano Concerto No. 1.
