Programme Note

The ever-popular Roderick Williams returns to the festival with his longstanding accompanist Susie Allan in a programme that charts the diversity and passion of English song. From Somervell's pioneering Maud, which sparked a trend of melancholically dramatic lyrical narrative in Romantic song, to a new piece by Ian Venables, the heir of this long tradition of song.
