Programme Note

Our Principal Conductor makes a welcome return to Leicester for an evocative programme culminating in Stravinsky’s timeless masterpiece, The Firebird.

Before, a chance to hear our own Concert Master Zsolt-Tihamer Visontay take centre-stage. A familiar figure on stage at Philharmonia concerts, tonight gives a chance to hear our leader’s skill as a soloist, as he takes on Sibelius’s Violin Concerto. It casts its spell with soulful melody, rhythmic power and flights of virtuosity.

Till Eulenspiegel depicts the merry pranks of its eponymous hero, a German peasant who flirts, teases, pokes fun at the clergy and rides his horse through a marketplace.
