Programme Note
Pinner Music Festival 2025’s final concert presents three very fine and contrasting works of the choral repertoire. The Festival Choir and Orchestra will be joined by soloists Alexandra Stevenson (soprano), Helena Cooke (mezzo-soprano), Louis Watkins (tenor) & Tim Dickinson (bass) conducted by Paul Jeanes. The Te Deum, written towards the end of Haydn’s life, is suitably jubilant, with a more contemplative central section. Handel’s anthem was written for the Duke of Chandos, at Canons in Stanmore: the choral sections have a cheerful aspect, while solo passages show contrasting moods. The Coronation Mass (1779) is one of Mozart’s finest choral conceptions from his Salzburg years, compact and bright in tone.
