Programme Note

We are delighted to welcome back to Mayfield Cellist Edvard Pogossian who was the overall winner of the 2022 Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition

Puccini's Messa di Gloria was a graduation exercise, although you'd never know it. Even in his early 20s Puccini was crafting tunes and creating drama as he later would as a mature composer of operas.

Elgar, in contrast, never wrote an opera: he didn't need to. He spent 20 years thinking about his Cello Concerto, which was his dramatic masterpiece.

The Mayfield Festival Choir gratefully acknowledges the financial support given by the Josephine Baker Trust for soloists Francis Melville and Ross Fettes in this concert.
