Programme Note

The Brandenburg Concertos are considered to be amongst the pinnacle of baroque composition. Each one uses a different combination of instruments to show off different musical styles that were popular during Bach's lifetime, from the French minuet to the counterpoint for which the composer himself is so well known.

Jack Gonzalez-Harding, a rising star of the classical music firmament, leads a team of world class period soloists in this performance of some of Bach's great secular works. The same musicians will be performing the other three Brandenburg Concertos at a separate event on the preceding day (the 29th of April).

Brandenburg Concertos 1, 3 and 6
