Programme Note
Pianist extraordinaire Howard Shelley and London Mozart Players bring Chopin’s glittering Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor to Upper Norwood in a special concert dedicated to giving the whole local community access to the best in classical music.
An internationally celebrated pianist, Howard Shelley gave his first televised Chopin recital at the age of ten. Howard will give an illuminating introduction to this masterpiece, before embarking on a full performance accompanied by London Mozart Players. Although Chopin wrote this concerto at a young age, the work shows great musical maturity. Whilst it is probably best known for its lyrical middle movement, the entire piece is a treasure trove of hauntingly beautiful melodies that explores the full expressive range of the piano.
