Programme Note
Join London Mozart Players for the spectacular finale of A Season of Virtuosos at St John’s Upper Norwood with Benjamin Britten’s epic family favourite Noye’s Fludde. Storms, boats and an angry God take centre stage in this imaginative re-telling of the well-known tale of Noah, his family and their unlikely cargo of animals, as they fight for survival for 40 long days on the ark.
Originally conceived as a community opera, this joyful work is tailor-made to show off the array of talent in Upper Norwood. London Mozart Players will be joined by 100 young singers and actors from local schools, members of the Croydon Citadel Band, the Crystal Palace Recorder Group and local amateur string players. St John’s Upper Norwood is the ideal venue for this piece, which Britten intended to be performed at a church.
This community performance promises to be an dramatic tour de force which brings our season at St John’s to a memorable conclusion. Part of the Crystal Palace Festival.
