Programme Note

Tonight’s concert is a Brandenburg Choral Festival speciality: a programme featuring two contrasting choirs from different countries! Ensemble Voblana, a female vocal ensemble hailing from the Asturias region of Northern Spain, will introduce us to the wonderful sacred and secular works of several contemporary Spanish composers including Eva Ugalde and Albert Alcaraz, as well as some traditional Spanish folk music. The Maidstone Singers will perform more familiar choral works including Eric Whitacre’s Lux Arumque, Byrd’s Sing Joyfully and Bruckner’s Ave Maria.

This concert will be dedicated to the memory of Jeffrey Vaughan Martin, founding conductor of the Maidstone Singers who died suddenly in April this year.
