Programme Note

Canty is Scotland’s only professional medieval music group and comprises the regular female singers with Cappella Nova, Scotland’s leading early music vocal ensemble.

This programme of music for Yuletide includes rare and lovely medieval Scottish pieces from the St Andrews Music Book, a delicious feast of English medieval carols, glorious chant from St Hildegard of Bingen, harp tunes and dances as well as traditional carols. There will also be some delightful new settings of medieval Christmas texts by Nichola LeFanu and James MacMillan.

The three expert voices and virtuoso harp of Canty will lead you on a journey from the sound world of the 13th century, evoking the earliest Christmas traditions, to the present day.
