Programme Note
Grammy award-winning and internationally acclaimed, The King's Singers have set the gold standard in a cappella classical singing on the world’s greatest stages for over 55 years. In their debut performance at Ronnie Scott’s they bring a wonderfully apt programme - 'Let's Misbehave'.
The group describe this programme in the following way: “In cities all over the world, magic has happened when musicians have broken rules, taken risks and pushed boundaries. In this experimental space, some of the greatest songs in history have come into existence. And it’s this place that we want to conjure up in Let’s Misbehave.
As a vocal group sitting on the boundary line between different musical worlds, we invite you to the perfect setting for this programme, as we honour some of the great singers, players, songwriters and arrangers from the world of jazz. We’re shaping this cabaret-style performance as a world tour, looking at how these musical rule-breakers have let experimentation take them somewhere new, transgressive, and magical”.
Music will include especially arranged works by Jacob Collier, Randy Newman, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and more.
The King's Singers are renowned for their unrivalled technique, musicianship and versatility, which stem from the group’s rich heritage and its drive to bring an extraordinary range of new and unique works, collaborations and recordings to life. The King’s Singers’ extensive discography has led to numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, and a place in Gramophone magazine’s inaugural Hall of Fame.
