His fourth piano concerto, out of six, is rarely heard today, but is a very attractive work from this period of victorian english music. The other three works in the programme are well known and significant. Sir Edward Elgar's popular miniature - Serenade for Strings, is followed by the fine and stirring Karelia Suite by Sibelius, and for a warm and rousing conclusion to the concert, ESO will present one of the great examples of French romantic music - Symphony in D minor by César Franck.
