Programme Note
Schubert's sublime Violin Sonata in A major, also known as the "Grand Duo" shows the composer at his most tuneful, with the work containing an abundance of lyricism, zest, Viennese charm and innovation.
Beethoven's Op 69 Sonata is the most popular of his works for cello and paino and the first proper duo in the genre. Typical of Beethoven's middle period, the composition is superbly inventive and full of bold and dramatic contrasts.
Brahms's famous G minor Piano Quartet ends the concert with its foot-tapping Gypsy finale.
A glass of wine is included, served during the interval.
