Programme Note
The first half of this concert features works by two leading female German composers, lesser known mainly as their output was overshadowed by their male contemporaries.
Fanny Hensel née Mendelssohn remained in the shadow of her famous brother, and was restricted by her marriage to Wilhelm Hensel but still wrote over 500 compositions.
Emilie Mayer however remained unmarried and is one of the most prolific female composers of the 19th century. Amongst her her admirers was none other than Robert Schumann whose highly romantic and passionate piano quartet forms a rip-roaring finale to this year's Festival.
Tea and cakes will be served in the interval.
